1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Similar technologies, like local storage or tracking scripts, do comparable jobs. We use the word "cookies" for all of them here.
2. The law this policy follows
In the UK, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR, regulation 6) require your consent before we store or access anything non-essential on your device. In the EU, Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC requires the same. In both cases the consent itself must meet the UK and EU GDPR standard: freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous, given by a clear positive action, and as easy to withdraw as it was to give (Articles 4(11) and 7). Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent; everything else waits for your opt-in.
3. How consent works on this site
Nothing non-essential runs before you agree to it. On your first visit you choose Accept all, Reject all, or a custom selection per category; rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting, and no non-essential category is pre-ticked. Your choice is stored in a first-party cookie on this device for 6 months, and every consent event is logged in our consent register so we can demonstrate it, as Article 7(1) GDPR requires. When our cookie use changes, we bump the consent version shown above and ask you again.

5. Controlling cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working, for example staying signed in. We also honour the Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out for marketing.
6. Changes
When we add, remove or change a cookie, we update the tables above, bump the consent version, and ask for your consent again on your next visit.
